Dutch About..

Mariola Wams, born on December 22nd, 1973 has grown up between horses..

She has been giving riding lessons for years (she was an ORUN instructor), backed horses and she even successfully joined in several jumping courses. Due to her great love for animals she decided to complete the animal physiotherapy studies after her physiotherapy studies. Right now Mariola is working part-time as a physiotherapist in a practice in Heerlen. Since April 2003 she also has her own practice as an animal physiotherapist in the paraveterinary centre in Geleen where she treats cats and dogs. When horses need to be treated, this can be done on location i.e. stable, manege or at home.

How do you become an animal physiotherapist?

Physiotherapists that want to specialise in working with animals will have to complete an intensive additional 2-year study after their 4-year higher vocational education study for human physiotherapist.  After taking this certificate the therapist needs to register with the RVV.  If an animal physiotherapist is associated with the N.V.F.D. (this is the Dutch Association for Physiotherapy for Animals) than he/she even has to attend refresher’s courses in order to keep up with all the developments. Mariola is associated with this association.
